A session in which we celebrate women in tech jobs and discuss whether the current educational model is encouraging for girls to choose more STEM-oriented topics at school? Do we need to bring the more Arts-based learning into STEM programs (STEAM) to make it more appealing for girls? What are the challenges and opportunities for women? Are we still dealing with the 20th century preconceptions about women in tech? What are the opportunities that we should embrace, what are the challenges that we face?

ROBOTICS FOR ELDERLY CARE

EUROPEAN ROBOTICS WEEK

The demographic shift coming is undeniable. And the ageing crisis is very real. Caring for our seniors over the coming decades - physically, emotionally and mentally - will be an enormous undertaking, and experts say there will be a shortage of professionals trained and willing to take on the job. From electronic monitors to mechanized bears, robots are increasingly becoming a part of everyday life for the world's aging population and a potential solution for the ageing crisis. Robotics are fully considered to be a major technology that can transform health are in the coming years. In particular, companion and service robotics are being developed, tested and implemented to promote social health and support active and healthy ageing. The Japanese are far ahead in the concept of using robotics for elderly care. Why are we behind in Europe? Do we need to look to Japan to see the potential?

  • Moderator: Nuray Gokalp (City of Amsterdam & AmsterdamTech.City)

  • Heleen Riper (Professor eMental-Health)

  • Marcel Heerink (Associate Professor Robotics)

  • Sophia de Rooij (professor in Geriatric Medicine)

  • Marieke Van Der Waal (Director Leyden Academy on Vitality and Ageing)
